Apply For A Car Loan: Our Process

Customers have a right to know what's going on when they apply for a car loan, and here's how the process works:

1. Apply for a car loan by filling out our short online auto loan application. We won't ask for any sensitive personal information before you've reached a secure, encrypted server. We do not sell your email address to third parties for spamming purposes.

2. Your car loan application is processed at our home office and screened to find you the best local loan officer. We use our patent-pending IntelliLead technology to match your profile to the best available loan offer.

With sterling credit, you'll qualify for a direct loan; with poor credit, we have a lot of lenders in our network, including an IFMG affiliate that can act as a lender of last resort. We cannot guarantee 100 percent approval. (The statistics fluctuate, but it's historically safe to say about 90 percent of our customers qualify for a loan offer.) Check out our minimum requirements for applying for a poor credit car loan here.

3. Attempts will be made via telephone, email and text message to have you set an appointment. In fact, from the emails, you can set your own appointment at your time of convenience.

4. Upon arrival for your personal appointment, you'll not only find out your loan details, you'll generally be offered some sort of incentive for arriving at your appointment. Sorry we can't be more specific on this, but different dealers use different incentives to get people in for a test drive (and to be clear, some dealers offer no incentives at all).

5. If you find the total package -- loan amount, loan rate, monthly payment and cool vehicle -- to your liking, then you can drive it on home. If not, you can walk away without any obligation to buy anything.

More on platform cars, as soon as we include the link one more time for our article on best cars for bad credit.

• Keep an eye on the now discontinued Chrysler Crossfire. Built in Germany and identical to the now discontinued Mercedes-Benz SLK -- except it was $14,000 cheaper.

• The Saab 9-7X SUV is essentially the Chevrolet Trailblazer, but the Chevy cost $10,000 less.

• The body styles between a Jeep Patriot and a Dodge Caliber don't look all that similar, but its the same platform and the Caliber is generally $1,500 less.
